Education:
Dr WP de Beer is a Specialist Surgeon with special interest in Colorectal and Laparoscopic Surgery at Linksfield Clinic in Johannesburg.
Dr WP De Beer was educated in Rooidakskool Boshof where he matriculated with 5 distinctions and was elected the Dux student in 1988. Subsequently, he obtained his Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery [MBChB] in 1994 at the University of the Free State.
He was an intern in the Universitas/Pelonomi Hospital Complex in 1995, after which Dr de Beer was a medical officer in surgery at the Goldfields Regional Hospital for a year and then did a stint in Plastic Surgery at the Universitas Hospital.
His surgical training was done at the University of the Free State obtaining his Masters in Surgery, Cum Laude, in 2002. He spend two years in Middelburg, Mpumalanga before he was headhunted by the hospital manager at Linksfield in 2004 – he has been in practice in Linksfield since 2004.
Dr WP de Beer has done training in Hamburg, Germany as well as multiple times at the IRCAD Institute in Strassbourg, France to hone his skills as a laparoscopic colorectal surgeon. Additionally, he has also been to Belgium numerous times to do training in laparoscopic inguinal hernias as well as to train under Dr Joep Knol, world renowned laparoscopic colorectal surgeon, in the new field of transanal TME procedures.
Most recently, he has done training in Bern and St Gallen in Switzerland for laparoscopic colorectal surgery. Outside of work, Dr WP de Beer is married to Lindi who is also his practice manager. They both enjoy their sport and compete in cycling, running and triathlons.
